Formula E Visit

Young people and their carers from Blue Sky Fostering recently had the amazing opportunity to visit the Envision Racing Formula E weekend in London.

Ed Thompson Writes

"Sport can be a vessel for engaging people in a whole range of topics; it brings people together into situations they might otherwise not meet through a common interest. In this case, it was Formula E and sustainability. Although this was a great event for us to bring young people to, the underlying reason was to show the multiple facets that go hand in hand with this fast-growing sport. From hearing about the Millennium Seedbank from Kew Gardens to understanding how Sea Sheppard are helping protect our oceans, this was more than just a race (although the race itself was awesome, not even the rain and delays could dampen the 40,000-strong crowd's spirit). It was about showing young people they can plan a part in the future of our planet."

This trip was part of our Young Persons Sustainability Co-Operative, an innovative new program we’ve aligned with the Department for Education to help transform the career prospects of young people in foster care.

Over the next few months, we’ll be focusing on several key areas, including climate action, green skills and careers, and championing education and learning, as well as partnering with lots more businesses to get inspiration and hands-on experiences.

The trip perfectly coincides with International Youth Day this Sunday! International Youth Day is held annually on August 12th and is an opportunity for governments and others to draw attention to youth issues worldwide, such as mental health, climate change, and others.

Here at Blue Sky we value these areas greatly all year round and are constantly seeking out new ways of addressing these issues alongside our young people and carers, such as taking part during DOE
