As CEO and owner of Blue Sky, I’m pretty much responsible for everything (scary!). But I’m surrounded by very skilled and competent people who are the ones who really do all the hard work. It’s really my job to set the tone and future direction for Blue Sky, to ensure we are meeting our customer’s needs, looking after our Foster Carers, and making a difference for the young people we care for. It’s my daily job to guide the Senior Management Team, protect our values, set the key objectives for the agency and to ensure we never lose sight of what’s important for the people we work with. It’s also my job to ensure that we manage the finances responsibly, so we can be here for a very long time in the future!
I most enjoy seeing the amazing difference we make together to the lives of children. Every day I see and hear stories of our Foster Carers going the extra mile to help a child recover from trauma or a young person overcome adversity in their lives. The commitment of our carers is truly inspiring!
The best thing about working for Blue Sky is the people. Blue Sky is really all about the people; our carers, their families, our staff and the young people we work with. It’s a tough vocation we’ve chosen, but I’m always heartened by our ability to laugh and have fun together.
Previously, some would say I’ve been around the block a few times! I’m a qualified Social Worker and have worked in the industry for over 28 years! I started in residential care, working with young people with autism. I’ve worked as a Probation Officer with young offenders and run a multi-agency centre for homeless young people. I worked for two national charities, managing a wide range of children’s services, before becoming a founding Director of a national fostering agency in 1997. I left that role in 2005 to set up Blue Sky… the best decision I’ve ever made!
