Become a Foster Carer

Katie Sell

Area Manager - Swanwick & Basingstoke

Hi all, my name is Katie and I joined Blue Sky in 2016 as a Supervising Social Worker in the TLC team. I became the senior practitioner for that team a few months later and then the deputy area manager in 2017. I am now the Area Manager for the Swanwick and Basingstoke Hubs and work with the teams in Swanwick and Basingstoke to ensure we are providing the best possible service for our Foster Carers and young people.

Before joining Blue Sky, I worked in the Local Authority. Initially, within business support in the fostering team as the panel and recruitment administrator. I was then was funded to complete a masters in social work. Whilst training, I worked in mental health and also child protection. Once qualified, I worked within the Children Looked After and Care Leavers Team for 5 years before moving to Blue Sky. I loved this work, but due to high caseload numbers, it often means that Social Workers cannot affect positive change as they work within difficult time constraints and do not have the resources. I had a young person placed with Blue Sky and was impressed with the company ethos so when the time was right for the young people I worked with; I happily joined the Blue Sky family.

For me, the child’s welfare is paramount and we should all be supporting every child to reach for the sky! I really enjoy working with young people and supporting them to make positive choices for their future outcomes, and believe it is vital that we support our Foster Carers in the unique challenge that is fostering. I love to see the small changes young people can make in our carer’s care and that makes every day worthwhile.
