Become a Foster Carer

Supporting our Carers over Christmas

As we near the end of 2021, we’d like to take some time to say a massive thank you to all foster caring households everywhere in the UK for all they do, day in day out, to help the vulnerable young people to live the happy lives they richly deserve.

At a recent Christmas lunch for our Foster Carers, Judi chatted about her experiences not only as a Foster Carer but also as a ‘buddy Carer’ for people who are new to the world of fostering.

“Christmas can be a difficult time for children and young people in care so Blue Sky always arranges events, pantomime trips and parties to ensure we all have fun. It’s a huge comfort to me to know that there will always be a Social Worker available to help at any time of the day or night, not just at Christmas but whenever I need them. They’ll know my situation and be there to offer whatever support we need. Everyone at the local hub knows me and I know them and that personal touch makes me feel valued.”

“I’ve been fostering for nearly eight years now and for the past four have been a ‘buddy Carer’. When people decide to start the process to become Foster Carers with us, I’m there for them should they want to chat with me. Of course, there’s the social work and admin team in our local hub who are there for them too, but it’s good for them to have someone to chat with who’s been through the process. I look after them once they have their first placement and beyond if they need me but to be honest, by the time we get to that stage we’re friends anyway, in fact, three of us and our foster children enjoyed a day at the Christmas market last weekend!”
