Our Participation Coordinator, Ed Thompson, is rightly ambitious for the young people in our care and so proud to visit St James’s Palace yesterday, to receive Blue Sky’s official certificate to provide the Duke of Edinburgh Award.
“Receiving our licence last year was a real accolade for us as we are the first independent fostering agency in the country to do so. Since then, it has been a privilege to help our young people pursue their interests in many fun and rewarding activities which will help equip them for their adult lives”
Attending the awards ceremony with our CEO, Simon Lockyer, Ed recounted the experience
“we were introduced to the Earl of Wessex as we entered the palace and, after a chat with him, we were taken through many of the famous rooms within the palace, including the ‘Council Chamber’ where William and Kate posed for their engagement photos. In the throne room, we watched the Gold Award presentation to young people who had completed their Duke of Edinburgh Award. It was really great to see the success of the young people and I have no doubt that in a few years, we’ll be taking our young people to receive their gold award!”
Simon was equally elated
“we are thrilled to be able to open up the Award for many more young people who might not have had the opportunity in the past and delighted to be on course for the first 12 Blue Sky young people to achieve their Bronze Award!"
