Become a Foster Carer

A great big Blue Sky welcome to Fiona

We’re delighted to welcome Fiona Hutchison as Assistant Director, based at our South East team in Portslade. Whilst Fiona undertakes her induction, we took the opportunity to chat with her about her career, her family and her decision to join Blue Sky.

“I qualified as a Social Worker over 25 years ago. The formative years of my career were spent working in ‘front line’, with the Children and Family teams for Brighton & Hove and for East Sussex County Councils.”

Before Blue Sky
“When my first child was born, I took a couple of years off to be a full-time mum before returning to with the East Sussex Fostering and Adoption Team where I remained until my second baby came along. Staying home with two young children gave me an opportunity to train as a counsellor, before returning to work with Brighton and Hove Fostering Team.”

“By 2006, I had moved to work with a successful and established independent fostering agency, in West Sussex where I remained for 10 years until I joined Blue Sky in March.”

It’s all about people
“I was attracted to Blue Sky because of its Ofsted ‘Outstanding’ reputation in all areas and for its commitment to the Therapeutically Led Care (TLC) programme for children. Also, I liked the ‘community’ feel that the Blue Sky is known for, with foster carers being completely integrated as part of the team.”

“In the short time I have been here, I have not been disappointed. Everyone in the Portslade team and the wider organisation has made me feel extremely welcome.  Not only are they a highly dedicated and professional group who are passionate about outcomes for children, they are also a delightful bunch of people, each of whom brings something special and unique to the team. It’s a team that I feel privileged to be a part.”

Fiona fits our philosophy
Sophie Barton, Blue Sky’s Managing Director is delighted to welcome Fiona, “We’re thrilled Fiona has joined us. Her warm personality, skills and enthusiasm are a perfect fit with Blue Sky’s philosophy and we know, under her leadership, our highly valued foster carers and colleagues will continue to offer outstanding support to the children and young people in our care in the South East.”
