Foster Care in Berkshire

Rural yet well connected, Berkshire is located just West of London and encompasses Reading, Slough, Wokingham, and Newbury to name but a few of its key towns and cities. Despite its excellent connections and central placement in Southeast England, Berkshire is notable for its rural surroundings and countryside landscape – making it popular with families from all walks of life who are seeking that balanced lifestyle.

And that’s not all Berkshire has to offer. The county is home to a diverse and wide selection of schools, including some of the top private schools in the country – making it a great place to both inspire and nurture children as they develop and grow into their skills and knowledge.

When you sign up to become a foster carer in Berkshire with Blue Sky Fostering, you will benefit from a comprehensive and vast array of tools and resources, including training and ongoing support from our team of professionals. By opening your home to a child, or teenager, you can become part of a valuable network of carers in the local area, and give a young person a lifeline and a home to feel safe in.

In March 2021 it was reported that there were approximately 57,380 children living with foster families in England alone, with the areas outside of London and across the South of England rife with both locally raised and international children who have arrived in the country unaccompanied, alone, and scared.

Berkshire is one of the growing areas where foster families and carers are in high demand, with an urgent need for at least 7,000 more families in England right now to help offer sanctuary and security to children and teenagers from all backgrounds – each with their own challenges, stories, and opportunities.

This is the Von Trapp family story

With three children of their own and an extensive foster story which has seen 17 children living with the for varying periods of time, this family has an open heart for children and young people from all walks of life – including those in our Therapeutically-Led Care program.

The couple, who are now full time foster carers, benefit hugely from the extensive training that Blue Sky Fostering offers, as it has allowed them to make small changes which have a huge impact on the children in their care.

And when the going gets tough, the Von Trapp’s lean on the bonds that they create with the children in their care, nurturing each one individually and enabling and encouraging them to let their personalities shine in unique ways.

“It doesn’t always have to be massive things that change the relationships that you have with your children, but to them, it can mean a lot.”
