Co-founders of Blue Sky Fostering, Simon Lockyer and Jonathan Whiter cut our celebration cake

“Just to say we all had an amazing day yesterday, there was something for all age groups and the company, food and the weather were all fab!”

- Jill Mintram, foster carer

It was all the ‘fun of the fair’ for our foster children, foster families, staff and their families as we joined together to celebrate our first decade of changing lives for the better.

“When we started Blue Sky, we were in a very small office in the heart of Ringwood and all our foster carers lived relatively nearby”

explains Simon Lockyer, our CEO.

“Fast forward ten years (and it really feels like fastforward!), and we find ourselves holding two celebrations, one in High Hurstwood in East Sussex for all our people in the south east and one at Littleton near Winchester, for all our people in the south and south west of the country!”

“In those early days, we didn’t dare to dream that we would be helping to change the lives of so many children, young people, and fostering families so it was especially lovely to see so many of them at the celebrations.”

Sunshine, fun and laughter

The sun shone, brightly, at both events and there were smiles all round as children and young people sampled the many child-friendly, safe, inflatable attractions, testing ball skills on basketball and penalty shootouts, pitching their strength against the bungee run and the accuracy of their aim with safe archery. The children’s tea cup ride was an instant attraction and, fortified by excellent catering, the tug of war battle was a close fought contest on both occasions.

Tigers and dolphins played together!

Indoors, the face painters tended both children and adults, using their incredibly artistic skills to enable all the butterflies, tigers, daisies, sunflowers, superheroes and dolphins to mingle, peacefully.  As ever, we were proud to see the creativity and imaginations of our young people on display on the craft table and everyone paused to enjoy the magic show and bid for their chosen animal to be balloon-crafted by the hugely talented ‘Magic Jack’.

After lovely speeches from Simon and delicious cupcakes, the days were declared a “success”, “great fun”, “something for everyone” and “thank goodness the weather behaved itself!”
