Apprehensive about an Apprenticeship?

Don’t be! Since 2010, over 2 million people have joined over 170 industries as apprentices, and the popularity of apprenticeship positions is growing year on year, with an impressive 850,000 people earning whilst learning during the years 2013 to 2014!* Here at Blue Sky Fostering, we’ve seen for ourselves how beneficial apprenticeships are for both our apprentices and for our organisation.

Abbey’s our trailblazer

Our lovely Abbey, joined us in 2015, having worked part-time at Costa Coffee whilst attending sixth form college.

Abbey“I’d finished my college courses and was looking for my first full-time job when I came across a national website that listed all the vacancies in my local area. The role of Apprentice Recruitment Co-ordinator with Blue Sky was listed and I thought it sounded an interesting and worthwhile job, so I applied and, happily, was successful!”

“At school and college, I loved science, history and catering, so thought my future lay working with one of those subjects, but my experiences of working with Blue Sky has opened my eyes to the bigger picture and I love my job, working with my friends in the recruitment team and spending time with our foster carers. I especially enjoy the training and have just passed my level 2 Business Administration course.”

Abbey decided to join us as a permanent member of the recruitment team and part of her role is undertaking all Disclosure and Barring Service checks for staff and foster caring households.

Along came Chloe

As Abbey moved to her new, permanent, role, we were on the look-out for another apprentice!  Along came Chloe.

Looking for a long-term position to go alongside her part-time role as a waitress/bartender at The Wheatsheaf pub in the picturesque village of Braishfield, Hampshire, Chloe found our advert for a new apprentice on the ‘Indeed’ website and joined us in the middle of 2016.

Chloe“I’ve settled in and really enjoy working with the recruitment team. I enjoy meeting all the foster carers and colleagues from the other Blue Sky offices. In time, I’d like to spend time with other teams, such as the placements team, to experience the process for when a child needs the care of Blue Sky Fostering foster carers, but I am very happy where I am and look forward to the future with my colleagues in the recruitment team."
