Becoming a Foster Carer
At Blue Sky it takes between 3 and 4 months to complete your assessment and approval as a foster carer.
After submitting an enquiry, you will receive a visit from one of the Blue Sky team. Following this visit a decision is made as to whether or not to proceed with an assessment.
As you'd expect, we undertake stringent checks to ensure that children and young people are going to be safe in the care of any one we approve as a foster carer. We also carry out a thorough assessment using the 'Form F' devised by BAAF, to determine your suitability. We undertake checks from the Criminal Records Bureau, Social Services and other agencies. Medical checks are also required, as are checks on your home and visitors to your home. We will complete a full and thorough assessment of your suitability to become a Foster Carer. A named Fostering Advisor at Blue Sky will be responsible for processing your assessment all the way through.
Along the way you will attend a variety of training and workshops to ensure that you are thoroughly prepared for fostering. You will also get to meet other applicants going through the process; an invaluable support to you whilst you are being assessed and hopefully many years afterwards.
With our help, you will be asked to complete a portfolio of information detailing your relevant experience, skills and abilities. All of this information is presented to a Fostering Panel and you will be asked to attend. For some it can be a long and enlightening journey and we will be with you every step of the way.
