Blue Sky Fostering was established in 2005 to help with the shortage of foster carers. Since then, we have flourished but as there is still a UK-wide shortage of carers, we are still looking to give children and young people loving homes where they can grow whilst feeling safe and supported.
Could you become a foster carer in Eastbourne and East Sussex?
Some people find it surprising that they fit the requirements to become a foster carer; however we are looking for carers from all walks of life. We welcome applications from all religions, races and relationship statuses. All we ask if that you match the following criteria:
- A spare bedroom & a driving license
- Willingness to include the looked after child in your family home
- Flexibility, resilience, optimism and a good sense of humour
- Some experience of looking after children - either your own or somebody elses
- Enthusiasm and commitment
- Prepared to foster from a wide age range
We know that becoming a successful foster carer comes with time so don’t expect our foster carers to know everything instantly. Our Blue Sky team ensures that carers fostering a child in East Sussex receive extensive training and ongoing support whenever they need it. As such, we have been rated ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted on three consecutive occasions!

Join our East Sussex and Eastbourne fostering team
Fostering is a highly fulfilling and rewarding career and is a great opportunity to make a lasting difference to a local child or young person. If you are interested in fostering and would like to find out more, we hold regular Introduction to Fostering events, giving you the chance to speak with foster carers in East Sussex and gain first-hand advice. Our nearest office to East Sussex and Eastbourne is in West Sussex; however we have foster carers all over East Sussex and Eastbourne who will be happy to meet with you in your preferred location.
About East Sussex
East Sussex is on South East England’s coastline and is home to the South Downs, a place perfect for you and your family to get outside and explore. As well as the great outdoors, there are many other attractions to visit such as scenic towns and villages, castles, abbeys, a steam railway and even a llama farm!
Eastbourne is one of the main seaside towns in East Sussex and is known for its pier and 4 mile stretch of pebbled beaches. Eastbourne is also on the edge of the South Downs National Park, a 1,600km2 stretch of breath-taking scenery, perfect for taking your foster child on an adventure.

Gently wending it’s way through eleven miles of stunning Sussex countryside, this pretty train line is perfect to entertain foster carers and foster children alike!
East Sussex Falconry
Spend a day with the magnificent raptors at Herstmonceaux Castle and learn the ancient art of falconry with your foster child. A great day out for everyone.
Hastings Cliff Railway
Two of the most amazing funicular railways, known as the West Hill and East Hill Lifts could carry you and your foster child to viewing points for the most breath taking views of Beachy Head and beyond into the English Channel or to Hastings Country Park.
