My job is to support foster carers to provide high quality care for the children we look after. This can be through supervision, home visits, liaising with the child’s social worker and others in the professional network, attending meetings, training, carer support groups and activities. I work closely with foster carers and support them throughout their professional development. The child’s welfare is paramount and we should all be supporting every child to reach for the sky!
I most enjoy working with young people and supporting them to make positive choices for their future outcomes.
I previously did an English Language degree at Cardiff Univerisity and then went travelling. When I returned, I worked as a senior business support officer in the fostering team for the Southampton Local Authority in 2008. This consisted of being the panel administrator and also the recruitment adminsitrator for the team. They supported me to apply for the Masters Degree in Social Work and I did this from 2009 to 2011. Once I had qualified, I joined the children in care and care leavers team for Southampton Local Authority, and worked there for 5 years as a Social Worker. I also have experience in child protection and CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services). I loved this work, but due to high caseload numbers, it often means that social workers cannot affect positive change as they work within difficult time constraints and do not have the resources. I had a young person placed with Blue Sky and was impressed with the company ethos so when the time was right for the young people I worked with, I happily joined the Blue Sky family.
