Since joining Blue Sky in June 2009, my role has involved supporting foster carers to achieve the best outcomes for children and young people. I supervise foster carers and provide day to day support and guidance, attend meetings & support groups and TLC (therapeutically led care) reflective practice groups.
I enjoy getting to really know foster carers and their families and feeling like I’m a part of their fostering journey. Seeing the progress our children and young people are making due to the hard work and dedication of our foster carers is very rewarding. A regular highlight is attending the TLC groups and listening to carers experiences throughout the week, working together as a team to understand behaviours and seeing how carers support one another. I learn so much from foster carers and colleagues, and like to think they can learn from me too.
Having worked at Blue Sky for almost 7 years, I have seen lots of changes over the years and feel proud to be part of the growth and success of Blue Sky. I’ve made some lifelong friendships and met so many children and foster carers who have had a positive impact upon me and my life.
I achieved a degree in BA Education and Psychology in 2004. I've also undertaken a variety of voluntary and casual work with children and young people including youth clubs, holiday clubs and activies. I worked with an Independent Fostering Agency for 4 years prior to Blue Sky; supporting children and families within the prevention side of the Youth Offending Team. I also worked for Dorset County Council within a community drugs and alcohol team, supporting adults with addiction. I have a counselling qualification and work with children within a child bereavement charity, mainly supporting children who had a parent or sibling bereavement.
